Steven Spittaels
Steven Spittaels, PhD started advising the European Institute of Peace (EIP) on conflict analysis in 2019 and is currently Team Leader of the Great Lakes and Southern Africa programme, where he provides strategic oversight and management.
He previously served five mandates on UN Expert Panels focusing on the Democratic Republic of Congo and Libya, including one as Coordinator. He has also worked on conflict issues in the Central African Republic, Afghanistan and both Sudans.
Over the past 20 years, he has built an expertise in outreach to and engagement with armed groups – their political and military leadership and diaspora networks. He is also specialised in conflict analysis and in-depth investigations into conflict financing and war motivation.
He has authored and co-authored over thirty reports commissioned by clients including various UN agencies, the World Bank, the EU and governments.
